IT HAS BEEN two months since I published any diary@blog in tijuanagringo.com and I am wondering how long before I will get around to it again?I used to be so devoted to these pages, always scribbling, always looking forward to uploading my next day’s journal text, always rushing down to the internet café, strolling along tercera (3rd) street from the little apartment I rented downtown in front of the park for almost five years before I moved to Otay. I still look back on those few years as a kind of golden era, partly because I was downtown in front of the park and it was just so beautiful with all those trees, and partly because I was renting from an incredible human being, one of the most beautiful and angry men I ever knew, Carlos Ramón etcetera.
It was a special time in my life but I gave it up to go live in Otay with my dear friend Maria and she is still alive and well and we see each other every few weeks even though I don’t live with her any more, no. That didn’t work out, either. Of course, I never actually had to live with Carlos, only next door, and pay him the rent. So there was a difference there. But I miss him. He died two years ago this summer and it still seems impossible that he has left this world, this vale of tears, no, I just don’t want to believe it it cannot be true he cannot be dead no no no no but he is and he did he left us two years ago wham. One year after my stepfather died.

I went to Sonora for almost two weeks starting two and a half weeks ago and getting home just last Friday. First I participated in the 15th annual encuentro de escritores hispanoamericanos. For four days we listened to ourselves reading our writing to each other. Then I went a little further south and spent four days in the old colonial town of Alamos, up in the hills on the far southern frontier of Sonora.
Then I spent a whole day and a night coming home on the bus. Got back to Tijuana Friday morning a week ago tomorrow.
And I want to go back south again, even though the heat is outrageous “down” there.
Tufesa bus lines is having special prices for their new service from Tijuana and Mexicali. Some tickets are only one peso! Others only 100 pesos.
That is an outrageous savings. Only for now, the last two weeks of June.
But I probably won’t go. I have other things to do.

I made some videos with the little camera Frank from VH gave me a couple months ago.
Here's one of the highway coming up the back side of the mountains that lead toward Tijuana and the coast of California. "La Rumorosa" they call that wild land of burnt rocks. This was morning on the last day, as I was coming back to Tijuana.
